Welcome to 2A
I hope you have all had a well-deserved rest in the summer holidays. I am looking forward to an incredible, exciting, and busy year together. Year 2 is fantastic; we have lots of interesting topics to learn about and I know the children will enjoy them.
In English this year we are beginning with a beautiful book called ‘Troll Swap’ by Leigh Hodgkinson, it is a warm and witty story.
In Maths we will be focussing on Place Value (numbers to 100) and addition and subtraction.
Our history focus is The Great Fire of London, which I’m confident the children will thoroughly enjoy!

A named water bottle must be sent in – it can be topped up, if necessary, in class – and taken home daily for washing. Please ensure that your child’s P.E kit is in school.
All uniforms need to be clearly labelled please.
Reading regularly at home is proven to improve your child’s confidence, builds self-esteem and expands their vocabulary. Please ensure you are listening to your child read at least 5 times per week. Reading with your child regularly increases accuracy and fluency. It is very important to discuss the book with your children to ensure they understand what they are reading.

Important Information
- Book bags must be brought to school daily, try to read at home every day just a few pages to build their fluency. It is vital that children are reading at home and bringing their book bags in every day to ensure that we can read with the children.
- Children receive fruit for the morning break, but they may bring in a healthy snack if they would prefer their own.
- Phonics begins at 9 am, children must be in school on time, if they are late, they will be missing their sound of the day. Coming into school late can leave the children feeling very worried and anxious, ensure they are in school at 8.50 am. The gates open at 8.45 am.
- 2G and 2A – will both have PE on Tuesdays
