A warm welcome to Year 5, your children are in for a real treat this term!         

Welcome back everyone. I hope you had a lovely break. This half-term we have an abundance of exciting learning opportunities to look forward to. In English, we will be studying The Paper Bag Prince by Colin Thompson. This is a brilliant book by our class author and allows for some fantastic writing opportunities.  The children will look at both formal and informal language and design their leaflets about waste management. They will continue to develop their maths skills following Power Maths, with a strong focus on fractions, decimals and percentages. In Science, they will be studying the life cycles of plants and animals. Our topic for Art is Space Art, using space imagery. Our topic for RE is Islam. In History, we will explore Victorian Liverpool.

PE will take place every Thursday. This half term they will participate in Athletics. The children will need to have a full kit in school and will now get changed into this on the day. Homework is set each Friday and needs to be returned by the following Friday. Spellings will be given out on Mondays and the children will be tested Friday mornings. Your child will also bring home a school reading book with a reading record, this should come into school with them every day. Please encourage your child to read at home, even if it is just a few pages each night and sign and date their record.
