Mrs K Tracey Y4 Class Teaching Assistant
Welcome to the Year 4 Page.
Dear Children, Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to you all! It’s great to see the children all back at school, well, happy and eager to learn.
We have had a great first full week back to it. Our topic for this half term is The Romans, which the children are already enjoying. Our Art lessons will be linked to our topic. In Science we are looking at our digestive system and how to achieve a balanced diet and finding out what our body needs to work properly!
We will be allowing pupils to start taking reading books home again and sending homework home on a Thursday. We won’t be collecting homework in but would appreciate it if you could go over it with your child and mark together.
Don’t forget to send children in in their P.E kits on a Tuesday.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact the school office.
Thank you for your continued support.
Mrs J Bailey

Summer 2 Spellings and Grammar activities
Our science topic is State of Matter – Solids, liquids and gases. BBC Bitesize has lots of great lessons on this topic, the link is below:
Our topic is the Local area. Find out all that you can about Kirkby. Kirkby has lots of history, ask parents and grandparents what they know. What/who are the streets/Roads named after? Why? I’d like you to find out about Liverpool too – buildings, landmarks, area features, attractions etc.
Can you draw or paint a Liverpool skyline? What are the three Graces? Can you include them in your work?
Continue to listen to, and evaluate, some music by our class composers – our classical composer Beethoven and our contemporary composer Freddie Mercury. Could you research them both and write a biography about their lives?
Why not join in with Joe Wicks every day Monday – Friday at 9.30am on you tube, go for a daily walk, jog, bike ride with a member of your household….make sure to stay 2m away from other people you may pass!
If you have a garden set up a mini obstacle course. Maybe you have a trampoline in your garden – make sure you use it to keep fit!
I am really missing you all and looking forward to seeing you all again. Try your best to complete some of these activities but most of all stay safe and be happy!!
Can you and your children find out about VE Day and why we are celebrating it this week?
Maybe you could write about how a child would have felt on VE DAY, or maybe you could draw a picture? Why don’t you try making some Union Jack Bunting together?
6th April 2020
Hello year 4!
I hope you are all well and are enjoying spending time with your family. I have uploaded some tasks for you to complete over the coming weeks. Please don’t worry if you are unable to print any of the documents, most can be completed in your notebook. I have also attached the next term’s spellings to learn. You can complete your usual spelling activities in your notebook too and even get someone to test you at the end of each week! Also attached are some fun practical activities to keep you busy. Please do not worry if you find some of the tasks difficult, just give them a go and when we are back you can tell me how you got on!
Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

From Monday 20th April the BBC Bitesize website will be launching a free daily lesson in core subjects for ages 5-14 combined with programming. The website itself will be expanded with more ideas for lessons and activities for different age groups but there will also be a series of 20 minute lessons for different age groups and subjects every day on BBC iplayer and/or the Red Button. There will also be 10 minute podcasts created for different subjects each day. The bbc.co.uk/teach website is also useful for resources. Further information can be found below.
Design and technology (DT) prepares children to take part in the development of tomorrow’s rapidly changing world. Creative thinking encourages children to make positive changes to their quality of life. The subject encourages children to become autonomous and creative problem-solvers, both as individuals and as part of a team. Through the study of design and technology they combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetic, social and environmental issues, as well as functions and industrial practices. This allows them to reflect on and evaluate present and past design and technology, its uses and its impacts. Design and technology helps all children to become discriminating and informed consumers and potential innovators.
Follow the link below for some fantastic, age appropriate DT ideas to try at home with your child.
