Class 2A - Year 2

Welcome to 2A.

I hope you have all had a lovely summer holiday. I am really looking forward to an exciting and busy year together! Year 2 is such a fantastic year; we have lots of interesting topics to learn about and I know the children will enjoy them.

Our Learning This Term

  • Writing: We will begin with Troll Swap by Leigh Hodgkinson – a warm and entertaining story that I am sure the class will love.
  • Maths: Our focus will be on Place Value (numbers to 100) and Addition and Subtraction.
  • History: We will be investigating The Great Fire of London. The children will act as historians – gathering evidence and answering the big question: “What happened in London during the fire of 1666?”

For more details, please see the Year 2 curriculum overview.

Reminders

  • A named water bottle must be brought in every day and taken home for washing.
  • PE kits should be in school on Mondays. Year 2 will have PE on either Monday or Tuesday.
  • All uniforms must be clearly labelled.

Reading

Reading regularly at home is proven to increase your child’s confidence, fluency and accuracy and expand their vocabulary. Please ensure you are listening to your child read at least 5 times per week. It is very important to discuss the book with your children to ensure they understand what they are reading.

Important Information

  • Book bags must be brought in daily. Even just a few pages at home each day helps build fluency.
  • Children receive fruit and milk at morning break, but they may bring in their own healthy snack (no nuts).
  • School starts promptly at 8:50 am (gates open 8:45 am). Arriving late can make children feel unsettled and impact their learning.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to ask!
