A warm welcome to Year 5!

Your children are in for a real treat this year. We were really impressed with how smart they all looked on their return to school, they have all settled in well this week and are a credit to you all!

This half-term we will be studying Queen of the Falls, by Chris Van Allsburg. This is fantastic book which provides the children with some fantastic writing opportunities including letters, diary entries and post cards. As part of our guiding reading sessions, they will focus on Rebel Girls by Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo. This will encourage lots of discussions about influential women from the past. Our focus for maths is Place Value and ordering numbers up to one million! Our topic for science is Forces, in which they will carry out a number of scientific enquiries. They will have the chance to become mini historians during our history topic on the Vikings. In RE we will look at Hindu beliefs and how they are respected and worshipped. They will have great fun creating their own instillation art and also becoming a Youtuber throughout their computing unit. In addition, they will continue to learn Spanish and engage in weekly sessions with our music specialist. PE will be on Thursdays, they will need a full PE kit on this day.

Children should bring in a water bottle each day. Please encourage your child to read at home each night and sign their reading record. Homework will be set each Friday and should be returned the following week, they should also continue to practise their times tables. Punctuality is crucial and it is essential that they arrive at school on time to ensure that it does not have a negative impact on their learning.

If you have any worries or concerns, then please do not hesitate to contact the school. We are really looking forward to an exciting year ahead and watching your children flourish!

As always, thank you for your continued support.
