Welcome back Year 5!

Happy New Year!  We hope you all enjoyed your break.

This half-term we will be studying Arthur and the Golden Rope, by Joe Todd-Stanton. The children will write their own myth focusing on describing settings, characters and magical objects. Pupils will write their own myth.  As part of our guiding reading sessions, they will read Odd and the Frost Giants by Neil Gaiman. They will use dictionaries to find the definitions of new words and learn how language and structure shape meaning. Our focus for maths is multiplication, division and fractions. Our topic for science is Earth and Space in which they will study the solar system. They will have the chance to explore The Ancient Greeks in history. In RE we will look at Hindu beliefs and how they are respected and worshipped. They will study scale and space in art and they use the iPads to take part in girls vs boys steam challenges in our computing unit. In addition, they will continue to learn Spanish and engage in weekly sessions with our music specialist. PE will be on Wednesdays, they will need a full PE kit on this day. We will also be visiting Kirkby Leisure Centre for swimming sessions and Kirkby High School for some extra history sessions.

Children should bring in a water bottle each day. Please encourage your child to read at home each night and sign their reading record. Homework will be set each Friday and should be returned the following week, they should also continue to practise their times tables. Punctuality is crucial and it is essential that they arrive at school on time to ensure that it does not have a negative impact on their learning.

If you have any worries or concerns, then please do not hesitate to contact the school. We are really looking forward to an exciting year ahead and watching your children flourish!

As always, thank you for your continued support.
