Class 5M - Year 5
Class 5M - Year 5
Welcome back Year 5!
We hope you all enjoyed your break.
This half-term we will be studying Lost Happy Endings, by Carol Ann Duffy and Jane Ray. The children will write a traditional tale focusing on describing settings, characters and an alternative ending – pupils will write a story about a character who mistreats others, which leads to their own demise. As part of our guiding reading sessions, they will read Hansel and Gretal by Neil Gaiman and Lorenzo Mattotti. They will use dictionaries to find the definitions of new words and learn how language and structure shape meaning. Our focus for maths is multiplication, division and statistics. Our topic for science is Materials, in which they will carry out a number of scientific enquiries. They will have the chance to explore life in the Alps and compare it with the local area in geography. In RE we will look at Hindu beliefs and how they are respected and worshipped. They will have great fun creating their own Christmas market stalls in DT and they will engage with the CLC for our computing unit. In addition, they will continue to learn Spanish and engage in weekly sessions with our music specialist. PE will be on Wednesdays, they will need a full PE kit on this day.
Children should bring in a water bottle each day. Please encourage your child to read at home each night and sign their reading record. Homework will be set each Friday and should be returned the following week, they should also continue to practise their times tables. Punctuality is crucial and it is essential that they arrive at school on time to ensure that it does not have a negative impact on their learning.
If you have any worries or concerns, then please do not hesitate to contact the school. We are really looking forward to an exciting year ahead and watching your children flourish!
As always, thank you for your continued support.
